Inner South Community Health Centre
2013
St Kilda, VIC ∙ Boonwurrung Country
We were commissioned by the Inner South Community Health Service, now known as Star Health, to design this facility. It is appended to a heritage building in which they used to operate, and is accessible either through the rear of that building or a gate in the adjoining alley.
The building we designed has an L-shaped plan. It comprises a meeting room, a kitchen, a lounge, an office, toilets, three counselling rooms, a carpark and a partially covered courtyard.
The courtyard houses a firepit, vegetable planters and a water tank, which drains the building’s angular roof. Communal interior spaces surround, separated by large glass sliding doors. The office and counselling rooms are located off a private internal corridor.
The building is composed of galvanised steel, timber and polycarbonate, which is trimmed by aluminium.
