Solar Energy Research Lab at RMIT University

2018

Melbourne, VIC ∙ Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country

This project involved refurbishing a decommissioned lab, located in Building 14, for new use by energy researchers in RMIT’s Sustainable Building Innovation (SBi) group. We removed the existing mechanical and electrical services. Our return brief detailed equipment selection and location, work zones, workflow and new services requirements.

The lab was investigating nanostructured solar cells, especially silicon nanoparticles. The instruments and methods specified by the researchers necessitated careful work. We proposed, tested, iterated and learned much about appropriate scientific affordances throughout design, documentation and construction.
