Pavilions at Flack Park

2010

Port Melbourne, VIC ∙ Boonwurrung Country

This project is an example of our long-held interest in modular structures, which we have designed for several public and private clients, from councils through schools to regional landowners.

The brief specified five new spectator pavilions for two wind-exposed ovals at Edwin Flack Park, Melbourne Grammar School’s sport facility in Port Melbourne.

The pavilions were designed as simple, transparent shelters, constructed on exposed-aggregate concrete slabs. Glass screens block the wind, attached to steel columns, which support corrugated-steel butterfly roofs with central gutters.

The roofs drain to water-absorption pits. From here, slotted PVC pipes direct rainfall to nearby eucalypts, freshly planted at the time.
